Automotive door handle

TG0’s patented moulded-material sensors allow automotive manufacturers to fully customise a door handle’s 3D shape to be ergonomic and intuitive. The technology combines surface engineering, advanced signal processing algorithms, and machine learning to accurately detect touch pressure and location without the need for conventional sensor networks.

Squeeze command, one of 25 new innovations in Novares’ car of the future, is a door command with gesture recognition. It replaces all door controls with a single control button with movement recognition, making it possible to add new functionalities without the need for more buttons.

As shown with this project, TG0 can turn conventional surfaces and injection moulded materials into digital interfaces themselves. Touch, gesture and pressure can be sensed through capacitive sensing, using only one microcontroller.

Sensing functions can be incorporated seamlessly into endless design applications according to customer specifications, including decorative materials and luxury finishes. Using a touch-sensitive polymer material greatly reduces the number of electronic components, which also has benefits around reduced noise caused by friction between HMI bundles, and a decreased failure rate caused by individual components.

TG0’s material-based sensor technology offers manufacturers a more lightweight, environmentally-friendly, and cost effective solution. Our engineers will work with you to create a rapid proof of concept, going from prototype to product in a matter of weeks. The process does not add any additional hardware to existing lines, but completely eliminates the assembly and calibration process traditionally associated with high-performance sensors. Recycling is also more straightforward – the disassembly process with the sensor material technology only requires unplugging of electrical connections. Building with fewer components creates a solution that is a more productive, efficient, and seamless way of controlling the car’s different functionalities.
