Deformation sensing & product design
Explore deformation sensing and how it can be integrated into products and experiences for better user interactions.
What is deformation sensing?
It’s a form of capacitive sensing specifically using force or pressure. Capacitive sensing is a technology that uses any conductive source to detect a range of interactions. In this case, force is used to create an interaction between the user and the interface.
How can deformation sensing be used in products?
Deformation or force sensing can be used to control a wide range of features and functionality. Traditional buttons, switches and dials can be redesigned and/or replaced to create more precise control and to enhance user experience and functionality without adding complexity.
Benefits of deformation sensing:
- Sense different types of material from skin, plastic, metal or even liquid
- More hygienic thanks to its seamless and wear-free properties
- Cost savings due to its small sensor size, which requires fewer printed circuit boards (PCB) and has lower power needs
- High range of surface materials
- Freedom of design
- Increased functionality without complexity
What’s the TG0 difference?
TG0’s unique and patented method allows for capacitive signal reduction, which means we’re able to extract more information from the sensor than other solutions. Our technology uses a fraction of the electrodes and ports typically required, thus lowering the computer and input/output (IO) needs and offering more component choices. Plus, thanks to our flexible embedded sensors, there’s an even wider and more unconventional range of style and design options available.
Our custom approach to each project means we combine increased functionality, better user experience and enhanced ergonomics to find the best intuitive solutions that are shaped around the user, rather than the technology that’s already on the market. Designers and brands will stand out in an increasingly cluttered environment.
TG0 brings intuitive touch technology to everyday products, making every interaction an extraordinarily tactile experience. Our London-based business has grown into a first-class, cross-divisional team across electrical, software, firmware, mechanical and design engineering as well as UX and industrial design. We’ve worked with Fortune 500 companies, tier-one suppliers and fast-growing startups, all of which trust TG0’s patented technology and team to deliver excellence on a range of groundbreaking projects and products.
